Nearly half of the 1,616 winners allotted flats through Mhada’s Konkan board in May this year have been found ineligible for flats under the scheme.
The 718 winners declared ineligible have all been given flats at Mira Road in the western suburbs.
According to Bhausaheb Dangade, chief officer, Konkan Board (Mhada), the winners, who were selected through the computerised lottery system, were rejected for various reasons.
“Many failed to submit documents like domicile and salary certificates. In some cases, applicants filed forms for reserved categories they did not belong to,” said Dangade.
He, however said these people would be given a last chance by way of appeal. “We will give them a personal hearing and ask them to furnish the relevant documents failing which their allotment will be cancelled,” he added.
Ineligible applicants have been given 15 days’ time to appeal. “We want to complete the process by February next year and will operate the waiting list for those who fail again in the hearing,” he added.
After any draw, Mhada sends offer letters to winners informing them that they have won a house and that they have to furnish various documents such as domicile and salary certificates and also pay the initial amount to confirm their dwelling.
