At present, eight such trains are running on this route, of which three are the new Siemens-make trains.

The white-and-violet Siemens trains are better ventilated and conserve only 30-40% energy, as compared to the older trains.

These trains, according to Central Railway (CR) officials, are being brought in view of the conversion of Western Railway’s (WR) network from DC to AC.

From Andheri to Mahim, the Harbour trains share the same stations as the Western Line, which will be converted to AC. From King Circle to CST, the line is DC.

The AC-DC trains will be able to ply on both types of lines.

“We are waiting for the monsoon to get over to complete the conversion. The work of converting the 1,500V DC to 25,000V AC will be done by end October,” said Sharat Chandrayan, chief PRO, WR.
