The police arrested a 27 year old hawker for allegedly molesting a minor girl on Sunday.

The accused identified as Hakim Ali Sheikh, lives in a slum near the T junction in Dharavi.

The incident took place on Sunday evening near Naik Nagar when the 13 year old girl from Chunnabhatti, was returning from a relative’s home who lives in the vicinity, said the police.

The officials said the accused approached the girl while she was waiting near a roadside eatery to pick food for her family. He started a conversation with her and offered to buy her the food.

“He also offered to drop her home, saying he too stays in her neighbourhood,” said senior police inspector Hemant Patil of Dharavi police station.

The girl reportedly agreed to go with him. The accused then took her to a nearby isolated place along the railway track and allegedly molested her, said the officials.

When questioned, the girl narrated the entire incident. The mob then allegedly thrashed the accused and handed him to the police station.
