HC rejects Jerrit John’s bail plea

Taking note of the incidents of acid attacks by spurned lovers, the Bombay high court, on Monday, rejected the bail application of Jerrit John, a film professional arrested for allegedly throwing a hazardous chemical on his ex-girlfriend’s face in November 2012.

“Such incidents are on the rise,” justice SC Dharmadhikari said. The judge held that the accused could issue threats to the victim and tamper with the evidence if released on bail.

John had sought bail stating that he cannot be charged for attempt to murder under section 307 of the IPC, as the injuries suffered by the victim were too minor.
