In a reprieve for five students expelled from the Tilak International School in Navi Mumbai, the Bombay high court on Tuesday expressed utter displeasure over the school management’s decision, and directed it to consider conditional reinstate students.

The school expelled the five students after their parents along with several others protested fee hike, from Rs550 to Rs750. The agitation turned violent and five parents manhandled the school principal, following which the school expelled their children.

“See today we talk about providing jobs to inmates coming out of jail after serving prison terms awarded to them, and here you are punishing students for no fault of theirs,” the division bench of justice AM Khanwilkar and justice RY Ganoo told the school’s counsel Anil Anturkar.

The bench asked the management to reinstate five expelled students, provided the parents made sure they would not create any problem for the school management. “Take them back on your terms. If need be, we will direct their parents to pay additional 10% fees as penalties, but don’t punish the children like this.”
