Cine And TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) has already received cheques running into lakhs of rupees.

Dharmesh Tiwari, general secretary of the association, said, “It’s sad but when someone offered Hangal saab and his son Vijay help, they spoke about it to the media. But we have been helping him consistently for the last few years about which he did not mention a word. No one contributes or donates to CINTAA. We shell out from our pockets to help artistes.”

The association is expected to meet over the next two days to decide the next amount they would be giving Hangal.

“I can’t disclose that [the amount] because I may have a figure in mind but there are other members on board too. Without their consent, I can’t arrive at a figure.”

The association, according to Tiwari, has paid Hangal and his 75-year-old son Rs 25,000 twice, and Rs 50,000 once in the past two years.

The veteran actor is remembered for his role as 'Rahim Chacha' in Sholay and his memorable roles in films such as Shaukeen, Lagaan, and many more.
