High court security beefed up for Kasab hearing

A circular issued on October 13 by MN Gilani, registrar general of the high court said that entry to the public has been completely barred inside the high court premises.

The circular was issued by the registrar general as per the directions of Chief Justice Mohit Shah to ensure high security during the hearing in the confirmation case and in the appeal filed by Kasab challenging his sentence.

More restrictions have been imposed on the second floor of the high court building and around courtroom 49 where the confirmation case will be heard by a division bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice RV More.

Media, staff, lawyers, staff members are banned from carrying cell phones with them while entering the courtroom,” states the circular. A pass system is also being introduced at the entra-nces. Litigants have been asked to furnish details of their identity.

The DCP said that the police will also conduct nakabandis outside the court premises and everyone entering the court will be frisked.
