The number is one of the highest seen in the state’s electoral history in the last two decades.

An individual can file more than one nomination form.

In 1990, the EC had received 10,200 nominations. This number had reached its peak in 1995 with 11,243 nominations and dipped to 4,555 in 2004.

The figures for 1999 were not available. This time around, only 419 women are contesting the polls. The figure is likely to dip as many candidates are likely to withdraw their applications before September 29.
