DCP (traffic), Nandkumar Chougale, however, said the traffic police had instructed the promoters, Procam International, to wrap up the event by noon.

"Routes will be open to traffic as soon as runners pass by. We have asked the promoters to complete the prize distribution ceremony before the deadline," he said.

Bruno Goveas, director of media relations for Procam, said, "We will start the armature marathon by 5.40am so that we can abide by the deadline."
