The oldest victim of the Bandra fire, Hussainbee was with her family at her one storey shanty when the fire started. In her room, Hussainbee hurt her leg while climbing down the stairs. She was rushed to Bhabha Hospital and has been suffering from nausea and giddiness since admission.

“My husband took her in his arms and got her into a rickshaw on the main road. But, it took us more than an hour to get to the nearest hospital because of the traffic jam,” said Mehrunissa Sheikh, 45, Hussainbee’s daughter-in-law.

She said Hussainbee has never been hospitalised before. But, after the incident she is traumatised and has not spoken or eaten anything. “After her discharge, we may have to live on the footpath. Nobody has offered to help,” said Mehrunissa.
