Prakash Dudhar, who was employed as a booking clerk at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, leaped in front of a Karjat-bound train at around 1.30am on Saturday.

Dudhar used to stay with mother and younger brother at Bhandup. He was in a relationship with Asha Yadav, a booking clerk at Dadar station. While Dudhar's family had given their consent for marriage, Asha's mother did not see him as the right partner for her daughter.

On Friday, Dudhar met Asha's mother Lilavati Yadav at the Sukharwadi area in Borivali and told her he wanted to marry her daughter. When Lilavati refused, Prakash picked up a grinding stone and hit her on the head following, which he fled from the spot. On hearing Lilavati scream, Asha, came rushing and found her mother lying in a pool of blood. The injured woman was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
