Nikunj Bubna, Pramod Sharma and Sailaja Mannav, employees of a private firm, called for a protest against soaring property prices in the city and non-transparency in deals. They urged people not to close any property deals on No Deal Day, which was observed on December 11.

They had prepared a charter of 20 demands for developers, the government and brokers on the basis of the grievances people posted on their website.

“Mantri discussed every demand from our charter and assured us full support. He also told us that he had already suggested some of the demands to the government,” Sharma said.

Buyers had complained that although builders are mandated to sell property on carpet area basis, the practice of pricing flats on built-up and super built-up area was rampant.

Mantri also agreed with the campaigners’ demand for a regulatory body to monitor property deals and suggested that the government create such a regulatory body.

A blueprint of the regulatory body will be ready by March 2011, he said.
