He said the rate of his file clearance, which had come under heavy criticism, has been faster than that of his predecessors Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushilkumar Shinde and Ashok Chavan. He also said that the builders, who had a free run earlier, are now under check.

Chavan pointed out that he clears an average of 30 files a day, against 29 in Chavan’s tenure, the average of 28 during Deshmukh’s two terms, and 12 by Shinde.

“I have been criticised for slow file clearance. So I asked my staff to compile the list of files cleared by previous CMs. When I compared their terms and clearance rates to mine, I seem to have been the fastest,” Chavan said in an award function at the Mumbai Patrakar Sangh on Saturday, where he presented the Dr GG Jadhav award to senior journalist Kumar Ketkar.

Later, Chavan’s office circulated the findings of the study to back his claim.
