They were ferried to Bhubaneswar and Chennai.

They landed at Alexander Port from where they were taken to the Mumbai airport. “We were promised we would be flown to Bhubaneswar but then we were asked to go by train,” said Rajendra Pradhan, 35, from Orissa.

They were then taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from where they boarded the Konark Express to Bhubaneswar and some boarded Mumbai-Chennai Express.

Sources in the Central Railway said they got a call from officials of government of Maharashtra asking them to make arrangements for additional coaches to ferry those evacuated.

The rescued people were shouting that they were promised to be flow by air to the two cities but didn’t happen due to fund crunch. The railway officials booked the train tickets from the airport itself where there is one passenger reservation centre. All of them got waitlisted tickets and so additional coaches had to be attached.

The situation at the CST station was chaotic as people were running only to get a berth inside the additional coaches with luggage towed over their heads.
