Indrani Mukerjea back in jail after five days in hospital
Soon after she was brought in, Bipin Kumar Singh, inspector general (prisons), south division, recorded her statement to find out what led to her collapse on October 2, after which was rushed to JJ Hospital
INX media co-founder Indrani Mukerjea, accused of her daughter Sheena Bora’s murder, was discharged from hospital and brought under heavy security to the Byculla women’s prison on Tuesday evening.

Soon after she was brought in, Bipin Kumar Singh, inspector general (prisons), south division, recorded her statement to find out what led to her collapse on October 2, after which was rushed to JJ Hospital. “The whole process went on for three-and-a-half hours. A woman doctor was also present. We will submit a report soon. We cannot reveal the details right now,” he said.

After doctors suspected a drug overdose, a team supervised by Singh is also probing who gave her the drugs. Singh said Indrani has been taking medicines since September 12, as she was “suffering from insomnia, depression and anxiety”.
But Indrani’s lawyer Gunjan Mangla, in an application to the CBI court on Saturday, said, “A lawyer met her on September 24. That day, she did not tell us about any medicine being prescribed to her.” The police have already recorded statements of inmates, doctors and the nurses who delivered the medicines.
