On September 6, in another case of alleged medical negligence, Yasmin Shaikh, 33, died in the hospital after undergoing a simple diagnostic procedure to draw fluid from her lungs. On September 7, Madhuri Nikam, 22, whose premature twins were being treated at the hospital, attempted suicide by jumping off the hospital building’s first floor.

On Tuesday, the infant, Shazia Shaikh, was admitted to the hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit. Her relatives alleged that there was a delay in treating her and that the doctors had underplayed the gravity of her ailment.

Doctors at the hospital alleged that the angry relatives assaulted Dr Vishnu Dhadwad, who had treated the infant, leaving him with bruises and a fractured right hand.

The strike inconvenienced patients who were scheduled to undergo surgeries.
