This is the reason Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) is not aware of consumption pattern in the schools.

“When the school authorities do not approach us with any complaints, how can we comment whether the consumption of these substances exists among schoolchildren,” said Sunil Paraskar, deputy commissioner of police (ANC).

Paraskar added the school authorities should be alert and keep a close watch on the students.

“If they are bringing Iodex, ink whitener or boot polish, then the students should be strictly questioned on why they are carrying the substances,” added Paraskar.

The ANC said if any of the school authorities catch a student consuming drugs, then it should be immediately brought to their notice without thinking about the school’s reputation.

“The students are minors and so there will not be any stringent action against them. However, we need to tackle the problem at the grass-roots level by finding out the supplier who will be dealt with strictly,” said Paraskar.
