The standing committee on Wednesday sought an inquiry in the proposal submitted by the Indian National Trust for Culture and Heritage (INTACH) trust to hand over the properties on the zoo premise for repairs.
INTACH runs the Bhau Daji Lad museum.
Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya had stayed the proposal on Tuesday after local Corporator Mangesh Bansode raised objections, Hindustan Times reported on Wednesday.
“The commissioner should stay the proposal permanently. The trust was given the museum to run and manage it, but they are behaving as if they own the museum,” added Bansode.
“We have demanded a inquiry,” said Rahul Shewale, standing committee chairman.
According to the proposal, the BMC had issued an order to hand over the security cottage, gymnasium, band master cottage and conservancy staff chowkie to the trust and asked the occupants to vacate in three days. The structures, occupying more than 3,500 sq ft of the zoo area, were to be handed over to the trust for repairs.
The order said the land should be given to the trust for two months and should be fenced. The order also mentions that the security department should hand over the key of the cottage, gymnasium and band master cottage to the trust for temporary use.
