The civic body has not yet started filling the 2-metre-wide, 10-foot-deep hole on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Road that suddenly appeared on Wednesday afternoon.
The cave-in will be inspected on Saturday and it will take at least 15 days to complete it. The civic body has also decided to conduct a technical survey to find out what utilities run under the road.
"Because it is a cement road, it will take at least 15 days to fill it properly. It will be filled up with sand and covered with paver blocks," said a senior civic official.
The cement concrete road just outside Pant Nagar bus depot caved in when a dumper was passing over it. Traffic in the area was affected as two lanes were barricaded.
The civic road department has sought a report from the sewage operation department. According to officials from the road department, the reason for the cave-in could be the leak in the old sewer line that runs under the road, or the fact that the cave-in spot is very close to the creek.
The sewer line that runs under the 60-feet-wide road is connected to the Ghatkopar pumping station.
