IPS officer cleared in assets case

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has given a clean chit to senior IPS officer and special inspector general of police (administration), Hemant Nagrale, in an alleged disproportionate assets case filed by his estranged wife Pratima.

A report submitted by Hasan Gafoor, director general, ACB, with the Bombay High Court suggests that no case of disproportionate assets is made out against Nagrale.

The high court had asked the ACB to inquire into the allegations made my Pratima.

In her petition filed in 2008, Pratima sought an independent probe in the alleged disproportionate assets owned by Nagrale.

The court had also directed the ACB to inquire the sale and transfer of properties, including the sources of funds and nature of transfer.

She had alleged that Nagrale had bought property in her name to convert his black money into white.

A division bench of justices AM Khanwilkar and AP Bhangale on Tuesday disposed of the petition after going through the ACB report.

“We have verified all the assets. And everything is accounted for,” said Pol.

The court turned down the request from Manoj Mohite, counsel for Pratima, for a copy of the report.

However, the court allowed inspection of the report and said that if the petitioner wasn’t satisfied with the result, then she cold challenge the report before the appropriate authority.

Mohite said they would inspect the report and then decide on future course of action.

Nagrale has consistently been refuting the allegations stating that all his income and property details were shown to the income tax while filing returns.

He opposed the petition stating that it was a manifestation of their matrimonial discord and that it was filed to take revenge and settle score.
