IPS officer’s bail plea opposed

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Wednesday opposed the bail plea of Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS officer Shaji Mohan, arrested in connection with a narcotics case, claiming that he is an ‘influential’ person.

Mohan had filed a bail application before the special NDPS court stating that the investigation of the case is complete and the police had already filed the charge sheet.

However, the ATS opposed the bail saying that Mohan is a very influential person and he might tamper with the evidence or threaten witnesses if he is released on bail.

In another development, an official from the Arthur Road jail told the court that a Chandigarh court had sent a production warrant against Mohan in an alleged misappropriation of a cash case that runs to over Rs 13 lakh.

The court, however, said that Mohan couldn’t be sent to Chandigarh on the basis of this warrant.

This is not the first time that a warrant against Mohan is addressed to the Arthur Road jail.

Mohan, who was earlier posted with the NCB’s zonal unit in Chandigarh, was arrested on January 25 allegedly with a consignment of 12.8 kgs of heroine from Classique Club in Oshiwara.

Following information obtained during his interrogation, the ATS raided a flat in Nalanda apartments at Naigaon and allegedly recovered another consignment of 25 kgs of narcotics.

The flat in Naigoan, allegedly belonged to the stepson of Vicky Oberoi, a fisheries exporter from Oshiwara, who was arrested along with a former constable with Haryana police, Rakesh Kumar Khatariya on January 17.
