Salim Shaikh, the estate agent who registered an extortion and assault case against underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar, said Kaskar assaulted him over an ego tussle. Kaskar was arrested on February 3, but is out on bail.
Shaikh, a Mazagaon resident, said when he visited Kaskar’s house in Nagpada on January 30, the latter revealed things he knew about Shaikh’s real estate business and property details. It was as if Kaskar had been on his trail for a while, Shaikh said.
Kaskar allegedly beat up Shaikh after the former tried to extort Rs3 lakh from him. While beating him, Kaskar told Shaikh about a property settlement at JJ Junction that Shaikh had mediated. “I suspect one of the parties involved in the settlement told Kaskar I used D-company’s name to force him to agree to the settlement. This is why Kaskar called me to his house, threatened and assaulted me with two of his aides ,” Shaikh said.
“Two years ago, Kaskar called me home on his birthday and asked me to return money to a person. Kaskar claimed I had taken the money using D-company’s name. So I asked Kaskar to call that person to his house. I assured Kaskar that I never used anyone’s name to take the money. At that time, Kaskar did not hit me and allowed me to go,” Shaikh said.

{{/usCountry}}“And then the January 30 incident happened, which prompted me to believe he was looking for an opportunity to strike back.”
Kaskar’s lawyer Shyam Keswani denied Shaikh’s allegations. “The entire FIR is fabricated. It’s a figment of the imagination of the police and certain people with vested interests.”
The JJ Marg police had arrested Kaskar and two of his associates for extortion, wrongful confinement, threatening and assault. All the three accused are out on bail.
