Residents of the island city will have to wait longer for the option to switch from the Brihanmumbai Electricity Sup-ply and Transport (BEST) und-ertaking to Tata Power Com-pany as their power supplier.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the directive of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity to the BEST that it should not deprive users of cheaper power. The BEST had challenged the order in the apex court, which said that it would hear the matter and take a decision. Migration from BEST to Tata will not be allowed until then.
The BEST, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said that the tribunal did not give it an opportunity to argue that the Maharashtra Electricity Regu-latory Commission, which had passed the directive last year, did not have jurisdiction to do so.
