J Dey case: File forensic report status, court tells prosecution

The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court, on Saturday, directed the prosecution to file a status on the results of forensic analysis of the eight mobile handsets, a memory card and laptop recovered from accused Jigna Vora in the J Dey murder case.

The court was hearing the bail application filed by Vora, the deputy chief of bureau of a city-based English newspaper.

The court directed the order after the defence advocate pointed out that the prosecution had not filed any forensic reports with the charge sheet. The failure to do so would prompt it to go on without taking it into consideration.

Vora was arrested on November 25, 2011 under MCOCA in connection with the murder of the senior crime reporter J Dey.

It was alleged that Dey was murdered at the behest of the underworld don Chhota Rajan. Vora is accused of passing on information like the number plate of the slain journalist's motorcycle and his address to the fugitive don.

In her bail application, she states that she is innocent and had spoken to Rajan to take his interview which was published in her newspaper.
