It began with an arts stream one room at Elphinstone College and today it is counted among the top colleges in the city.

The history of Jai Hind College has been recorded in a book, ‘I Will and I Can, Nandita Bhavnani’s History of Jai Hind College’, which was released by the governor of Maharashtra, K Sankaranarayanan on Wednesday.
Started in 1948, the college was set up by Sindhi refugees, mainly professors from Karachi’s DJ Sind College who were forced to leave their homeland
“The book has been heavily researched, and I am sure that it will bring back fond memories for both alumni and its students alike,” said Bhavnani.
The book contains old pictures of the college and interviews with alumni.
The title of the book, I Will and I Can,’ is borrowed from the college’s motto.
