Unhappy with the Centre's inconsistent stance on the Jaitapur nuclear power plant project, the Congress-led state government wants the Centre to come out with a clear policy on the issue so that efforts to push the project can be stepped up.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday and insist that the Centre take an unambiguous stand on the project. The CM will also brief him on local and political issues that have blocked the project.
The state is concerned about the contradictory statements made by Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh on the proposed plant. Ramesh had first said the project would be revie-wed, but then said no rethink was needed. On Saturday, he said the project should be put on hold.
