Jewellery worth `3.5 cr stolen from Andheri shop

The Ahmedabad showroom of the jewellers was under renovation due to which a large amount of gold and diamond ornaments and other valuables were kept in the Mumbai office located on the seventh floor of Premier House in MIDC area of Andheri east, said the police.

The police further said that between Sunday 8pm and Monday 11am, the lock on the main door of the office was broken and the ornaments kept in a drawer were stolen along with a camera and a laptop. The stolen ornaments and valuables are estimated to be worth around Rs3.5 crore, said the police.

“The ornaments should have been kept in a safe which was not done in this case. The security guard, Balbhim Chivle, 22, who was on duty, has been untraceable since the crime took place and hence he is the main suspect in the case. We tried to contact him on his mobile phone which is not reachable,” said a senior police officer from MIDC police station.

“We suspect Chivle’s involvement in the crime and have registered a case against him. Investigation is on about his whereabouts that could give us some leads in the case,” said Mohan Waghmare, inspector of MIDC police station.
