The water that was used to douse the flames at Gokul Niwas building in Kalbadevi has weakened its neighbouring Narayan Niwas, a three-storey structure, claim fire brigade officials.

After the fire officials declared it to be dangerous, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) started repairs of the building on an immediate basis.
After the fire, the residents were immediately evicted.
“We have asked the police to not allow anyone inside the building till the audit report is out,” said PS Rahangdale, deputy chief fire officer.
The residents have been temporarily shifted to Prabhadevi’s Mhada buildings meant for mill workers. “The BMC had ordered to pull down the building, but after we protested, the Mhada started the propping work. Our business is heavily affected as we are not even allowed to get our material out,” said Sanjay Abhani, a businessman.
