Fourteen-year old Arun Binda, kidnapped from Kandivli four days ago, was rescued by the Sangli police on Monday evening.

The police arrested the kidnapper, Hemant Shantilal Sangoi from Abhaynagar in Sangli, where he had confined the boy. On July 9, Hemant, also a resident of Kandivli, lured the boy with a promise of a cricket bat and gloves and forcibly took him to Sangli by a state transport bus. When Arun went missing, his father lodged a complaint with the police. Hemant called Arun's father from his cell phone and demanded a ransom of Rs30 lakh.
"With the help of the telephonic conversation, we traced the location of the accused to Sangli in just three hours," Ramrao Pawar, additional commissioner of police (north region) said.
The Sangli police swung into action and combed the Abhaynagar area of Sangli, where the call was traced to.
They noticed Sangoi moving about suspiciously and trailed him all the way to his hideout. The police team raided the premises and rescued the boy.
Sangoi, who hails from Kappayya in Bhuj, confessed to the crime, said the police. Hemant was taken into police custody, while the police team was working on getting Arun back to his family. "We have arrested Sangoi on charges of kidnapping. He will be produced in the court on Tuesday," said Pawar.
