The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has refused to give the family Karan’s death certificate despite the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) having conducted a DNA analysis and submitting a report that states the body parts recovered from the ghat belonged to Karan. The BMC remains firm it cannot issue a death certificate for body parts. Karan’s brother Hanish recently shifted to Ludhiana from Delhi with his family and mother.

“My financial condition has become weak after my brother’s death. There is still some money in my brother’s account, but the bank will not process it till I get my brother’s death certificate. I often visit Mumbai, along with my mother, who is now old, for the certificate. But there has been no help,” said Hanish.

“This is a unique case. I do not understand why they require a court’s order to get a certificate, as the FSL report states the body found at Kumbharli was that of my brother,” said Hanish. “I do not know how many people understand the trauma my mother undergoes. Every time she comes to Mumbai, she becomes inconsolable. I don’t know who to approach any further,” said Hanish.
