Kasab throws a tantrum

The 23-year-old Lashkar-e-Tayyeba operative, who is facing capital punishment for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks that left 166 people dead, was also seen misbehaving during the first day of the hearing on Monday.

At the end of the morning session on Tuesday, Kasab was seen arguing with policemen at the Arthur Road jail where he is lodged.

He then spat on the camera and repeatedly demanded that he be allowed to attend the court proceedings in person, instead of through video-conferencing.

The judges had earlier declined this on security grounds.

When hearing resumed, Kasab came on camera and asked to be sent to the US.

"Send me to the US. I want to see the world outside. Why have you kept me here?" he asked.

The judges then asked defence lawyers Amin Solkar and Farhana Shah to visit Kasab's prison on Tuesday and speak to their client about his plea to go to the US.

The lawyers will convey whatever Kasab had to tell the court on Wednesday.

A special court had on May 6 convicted Kasab on 80 different counts including killing innocents, conspiracy and waging war against the nation, and had awarded him capital punishment.
