Keep your umbrellas handy on Monday and Tuesday as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the rains will continue owing to a low-pressure area created over the Arabian Sea.

Shahid Hassan, 22, a student of NIFT in Navi Mumbai, got drenched while riding his motorcycle from Kharghar to Andheri on Sunday. “Due to the train block on the Harbour line, I planed to drive down to Andheri. I had no clue that it would rain,” Hassan said.

Colaba recorded 0.4mm rainfall whereas Santacruz recorded 3.4mm.

“The clouds formed due to low pressure over the Arabian Sea have moved towards coastal Maharashtra resulting in the showers,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, IMD.

“There is an ‘Easterly Wave’ approaching Maharashtra from the Bay of Bengal. It may even bring further rainfall after three to four days,” Rajeev added.

The rainfall would, however, be minimal, within 5mm, he said.

In November and December the southern states experience winds from the Bay of Bengal called the Easterly Waves.
