Killer had got alibi ready: Cops

Additional commissioner of police (North Region) Ramrao Pawar said, “A woman from the Shantarampada area of Kurar came to the police station on Saturday complaining that Pathak had behaved indecently with her. Pathak was called to the police station on Saturday night and fined. At the time we did not know of his involvement in the kidnapping case.”

Some time later, the friends of the four victims approached the Kurar police informing them that their friends had been kidnapped.

An officer from the Kurar police speaking on condition of anonymity said, “It is possible that Pathak deliberately came to the police station on Saturday night so that he would have an alibi in case his name came up in the investigations.” Pathak has several cases against him and had been externed from the Kurar area in the past, police said.

On Tuesday morning, the families of the four men performed the last rites at a crematorium in Malad (West). There was adequate police presence near the crematorium to ensure the last rites were performed without any incident. No protests were reported on Tuesday.
