The police have solved the murder of a 23-year-old woman whose body was found stuffed inside a gunny bag in the luggage compartment of a local train at Churchgate station on April 25. Highly placed police sources told HT on Wednesday that the woman has been identified as Naizu, 23. Following his arrest, Ripon told the police that he had also killed his sister-in-law (Naizu’s sister), Rubina, 9, the same night and dumped her body in a deserted place at Naigaon before he fled to Kolkata.

According to sources, Naizu, who hailed from Jesore in Bangladesh, was Ripon’s second wife. The couple lived in Nalasopara where Ripon does odd jobs. Some time ago Rubina had come to Nalasopara from Bangladesh.

Sources said the couple had been having serious marital problems of late. On the night of April 24, they fought again, following which Ripon decided to kill Naizu. After Naizu and Rubina fell asleep, Ripon first strangulated his wife. But, Rubina woke up in the commotion. Fearing that the girl would spill the beans, Ripon strangulated her too. He then packed the bodies in two separate gunny bags stuffed with old clothes.

Senior inspector Rakesh Sharma of CB Control confirmed Ripon’s arrest. He is being brought back to the city and is likely to be produced in court on Thursday.
