Kin blame cop for man’s suicide

Relatives of Shahpur resident Bachhu Bhoye (56), who committed suicide a couple of days ago, alleged on Thursday that Senior Police Inspector Shiv Shinde from the Shahpur police station tortured the deceased, which led him to commit suicide.

Maruti Dhirde, taluka pramukh at Shahpur, said, “Last week, a mentally-challenged girl was raped by three people at Cherapoli village and during enquiry, police suspected that Dashrath Bhoye and his friends were behind the act. The police then visited Bacchu Bhoye, Dashrath’s father, to enquire about the case. During the inquiry, Shinde roughed up Bacchu, which led him to commit suicide.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police CC Devras, they have received complaints from Bhoye’s relatives, alleging that the police officer was responsible for Bhoye’s suicide.
