Families of three victims from outside Maharashtra who died in the 13/7 blasts have been paid pending compensation, along with interest, the state government informed the Bombay high court (HC) on Thursday.
The division bench of justice Anoop V Mohta and justice NM Jamdar was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activist Prakash Sheth, which had sought disbursement of pending compensation for families of four victims from Thane. The scope of the PIL was later expanded to include other families that had not been compensated.
Under a 2008 Central scheme, families of victims of terror, Maoist activities and communal violence are entitled to Rs3 lakh each.
Kanchanbehn Gadhiya, wife of Vallabhbhai Gadiya from Gujarat, Anitadevi Verma, wife of Ajay Verma from Uttar Pradesh and Chandana Nayek, wife of Prabhat Nayek from West Bengal, had not been paid. The state confirmed it sent the cheques to the collectors of the respective districts.
According to a previous order, the state was also directed to furnish data on whether there were other victims of Maoist or communal violence who are yet to be paid under the scheme. The state will have to file an affidavit in this regard before December 19.
