The legal battle to control Lilavati Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in the country, took a new twist on Wednesday with Niket Mehta, Managing Trustee and son of founder late Vijaybhai Mehta, claiming that he faced a serious threat to his life.

"There are attempts to repeatedly physically harm me or terminate me," Mehta said at a press conference in Mumbai.

He exhibited a CD film which showed how unidentified people barged into his cabin, guided by security personnel of the hospital on July 23.

Founder Vijaybhai Mehta passed away on July 24, the very next day.

Mehta, who was accompanied by his lawyer Dinesh Tiwari and wife Ashiana, alleged that three other trustees and his relatives – Chetan Mehta, his father Prabodh Mehta and Rashmi Mehta – were behind the attack.

"They are in a conspiracy to get my client eliminated. The assault itself shows the malafide intention and conspiracy," Tiwari said.

He also urged that Mumbai Police chief Sanjeev Dayal should personally look into the matter. "Police investigation is tilted in favour of Chetan Mehta and others," Tiwari alleged.
