Confusion and delay prevailed once again on Thursday evening, the day the second merit list for the vocational courses was declared. The education department first uploaded wrong data confusing students and colleges. The Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd. (MKCL), the state's technical partner, then sent out a message to colleges asking them to ignore the data. The correct list finally came out after 7.30 pm, two-and-a-half hours later than the scheduled time of 5 pm.

“There was some problem with the system at MKCL, we do not know the technical reasons behind this,” said an official from the education department.

Some colleges such as Ruia College in matunga and Bhavan's College in Chowpatty even put up the wrong list of students assuming it was the final list.

“This is very poor form on the part of the government, they should have gotten it right this time,” said a college vice-principal.“When we accessed our list, we found it odd that there were only 10 students listed when in fact we had 15 or 20 vacancies.”

At 5.20 pm, Ruia College put up its list on their notice board and a few parents and students came to look at it. However, within half an hour the list was removed.

“We were all really annoyed – the site wouldn’t open, colleges didn’t have the list; it was all a mess,” said a student who did not wish to be named.

She scored 95.04 per cent and was hoping to make it to the second list at Ruparel. Colleges said they would put up their second merit lists on their premises on Friday morning. Students who have made it in the second round can pay their fees on Friday and Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm.

The first general list for arts, science and commerce will be declared on Monday at 5 pm.
