‘Loopholes in RTE deprive minorities of education’

The board has passed resolutions pertaining to four constitutional bills — the Right To Education Act, Waqf Amendment Bill, Direct Taxes Code bill, which seeks to tax religious trusts and donations made to them, and the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act in Uttar Pradesh — in its convention that began on Friday.

“The Right To Education Act dilutes the provisions given in Articles 29 and 30 of the Constitution that permits minorities to set up and run their institutions. Though we welcome the Supreme Court’s validation of the act that exempts unaided private institutions from reserving 25% seats for the economically weak, there are several loopholes in the act that deprives minorities from imparting education to their children,” said Abdul Rahim Qureshi, spokesperson, AIMPLB.
