Maharashtra: 10 girls molested by Badlapur ashram official

The girls, aged between 12 and 15, registered a case against him for showing them obscene videos in the ashram’s computer lab and sexually assaulting them.

A 32-year-old superintendent of a Badlapur ashram was arrested for allegedly molesting 10 minor girls.

When girls complained to the ashram’s principal about it, she threatened them and hushed up the matter. The girls told their parents and registered a case at Kulgaon police station on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Post Basic Anudanit Adivasi Ashram School at Karav village in Thane district. Around 70 girls read in the residential school which has classes from Class 1 to 10. All the students are residents of Karav village.

“On December 31, around 10 students complained to the principal about superintendent Ajay Singh Jay Singh Girase. He used to ask them to come to the computer room at night on the pretext of taking extra classes. He used to show them obscene video clips on the computer and sexually assault them,” said Rajesh Channe, chief secretary of Shramajivi Sangathan who helped the parents register a case.

The girls’ parents approached the Sangathan. “The women members from our Sangathan interrogated the girls and then we approached the police,” said Channe.

“On the basis of statements of four girls, a case was registered and the accused arrested,” said Dhananjay Pore, assistant police inspector, Kulgaon police station.

A case was registered under sections 354 (A) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
