Maharashtra Assembly election process gets underway

The notification for the election to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly was issued on Friday, setting in motion the process for the single-phase bypoll on October 13.

The notification for the election to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly was issued on Friday, setting in motion the process for the single-phase bypoll on October 13.

With the issuance of the notification, nominations can be filed from today till September 25.

Scrutiny will take place the next day and October 29 is the last day for withdrawal of nominations, sources in the office of state's Chief Electoral Officer said.

Polling will be held on October 13 and counting will be take place on October 22, according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India.

An electorate of 7,56,34,525 are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect the representatives.

The term of the present Assembly expires on November three and the election process has to be completed by October 25.
