After distributing hall tickets for the upcoming Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to charge money from schools to correct errors in the hall tickets.
Schools received circulars on Monday from the board stating it will charge Rs 50 to Rs 500 for corrections depending on the number of mistakes. Minor mistakes, such as rectifying spellings of’ names will cost Rs 50, while Rs 500 will be charged for reprinting an entire hall ticket.
Over 3.18 lakh students from the Mumbai division, including Thane and Raigad, will appear for the HSC exams, which will begin on February 21. A total 3.82 lakh students will appear for the SSC exams starting March 3.
According to Laxmikant Pande, chairperson, Mumbai division of the state board, the monetary fee has been levied so that schools become more cautious while sending information to the board. Money will be charged from the schools and not students, he said.
“Schools were sent pre-lists containing student information that will appear on the hall tickets. Many schools did not check the pre-lists,” Pande said. “Last year, we did not charge anything for correcting mistakes because we were responsible for them. This year, the mistakes have occurred due to the schools’ negligence,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}He said unless the board makes schools pay for correcting errors, they will not take the process seriously. “Reprinting hall tickets is not an easy affair. We have to invest our resources to make the necessary changes,” said Pande.
Students appearing for board exams are worried that schools might ask them to pay. “I am yet to collect my hall ticket, but if there is any error in it, why should I pay for the school’s mistake?” said Akash Sharma, an SSC student from Vile Parle.
“We might have to charge money from students,” said Rajesh Pandya, senior teacher, Fatimadevi English School, Malad.
