Appealing to college teachers to resume work, higher and technical education minister Rajesh Tope made this announcement in the legislative council on Tuesday. He said the state had decided to advance the date of payment from December to May.

“We will start payment from April 20 onwards, in three instalments,” Tope said. The second installment will be disbursed on May 10 and the third on May 31.

“I have even spoken to Sharad Pawar, who assured me the central government will also give its share in May,” the minister said.

Another contentious issue was of those 2,283 teachers who were appointed between 1991 and 2000 and who have not passed the NET/SET exams.

They have been demanding they be given benefits from the time of appointment.

According to the state, each teacher stands to gain at least Rs.2 lakh.
