Major fire at Mumbai building, no casualties

A fire broke out at Akruti Centre building in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area in suburban Andheri late this evening. Fire brigade sources said that 12 fire engines had been rushed to the spot.

The fire started at a canteen located on the sixth floor of Akruti Trade Centre and soon spread on the seventh floor, according to chief fire officer H N Mujawar.

No casualties were reported in the incident, he said, adding 15 fire tenders were rushed to douse the flames. Even though the exact cause of the fire was not known,
fire brigade officials said that a short-circuit could have triggered the blaze.

Efforts are on to bring the fire under control.
