Enraged at being turned down, a 23-year-old man allegedly tried to disfigure the face of a 19-year-old girl at Kandivli on Friday.

Raj Aarya, 23, allegedly used a chopper to attack the victim on her face, who while trying to save herself ended up with a deep gash on her right hand. The victim, a resident of Maruti Nagar, Kandivali was returning from work when Aarya accosted her. A resident of Gandhi Nagar, Aarya, works at a knife-manufacturing unit at Kandivali.

The girl approached the Charkop police who arrested Aarya after some inquiries on Sunday afternoon. On interrogation, the police found that Aarya had approached the victim and asked her name and cellphone number at the bus stop on Thursday. The girl slapped Aarya who then fled from the bus stop. To avenge his insult, he plotted the attack, said, assistant police inspector Ram Bandekar, Charkop police station.
