A 40-year-old man lost his life after falling from the train on Vitawa Bridge near Kalwa on Thursday. Ramesh Chaubey was a vendor who sold toothbrushes on long-distance trains.

“Chaubey fell from a long-distance train at 12.30pm. His legs were caught in the tracks and got severed in the accident. He later fell into the creek under the bridge. He was fished out of the water by a local resident and lifeguard who admitted him to Kalwa hospital. Chaubey died while being admitted him to the operation theatre,” said Shraddha Waydande, sub-inspector.
Chaubey who hails from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, lived with his sister in Dombivli. “He had come to visit his sister’s husband who had met with an accident two months ago. He then decided to earn a living in the city and send money to his family back in the village. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.”
Rajesh Kharkar, the lifeguard who rescued him said, “This is the third accident in this week at the same spot. This spot near the electric pole is prone to accidents, as people often hit the pole and lose their balance.”
