If his friends and an eyewitness are to be believed, it was not the mishap that led to Aatmaram Yadhav’s disability, but the callousness of doctors at Bhagwati and Sion Hospitals. Yadav, a resident of Navi Mumbai, works as a carpenter. He was on his way to Bhayander where he was to stay at a relative’s house.

An eyewitness, Bhavesh Patel said, “Yadav was travelling in a second class compartment and standing on the footboard. He lost his balance, fell and his left hand came under the wheel of the train.” Only one person came forward to help and rushed him to Bhagwati Hospital.

Doctors said he should have to taken to Sion hospital but they did not provide them with an ambulance. “We had to book a private ambulance to rush Yadav to Sion hospital with his arm that had been cut off,” said Mahadevan, Yadav’s friend.

“They [doctors at Bhagwati] did not inform us about keeping the arm in ice so that it could be attached to the body again,” added Mahadevan. He is recuperating at Sion hospital.
