Man held for attempting to abduct 3-yr-old from Colaba

The Cuffe Parade police, on Friday, arrested a 32-year-old man who was allegedly trying to abduct a minor.

Mohan Yadav was apprehended by the police after the three-year-old girl's uncle saw him walking with her on Friday afternoon. Police claim Yadav offered the girl a chocolate and Rs10 in cash to lure her away from her home in Shiv Shakti slum, Cuffe Parade.

When the girl's uncle, Shekhar Kamble, saw his niece walking with Yadav, he confronted the man. Yadav attempted to flee, but was apprehended and thrashed by passersby.

Significantly, the place where Kamble saw Yadav with the child is close to the spot where two girls were found murdered in November last year and January. Police are probing if Yadav was involved in the previous two murders.

Police say Yadav was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested on Friday. They also recovered a packet of condoms from his pocket. "Mohan either intended to sexually assault the victim or was planning to force her into begging," said a police officer, requesting anonymity.

Till Saturday evening, Yadav had not told his investigators the motive behind his alleged attempt at abduction.
