Man held for burning bikes in Mulund

The Mulund police on Tuesday arrested one person for burning two bikes in the area last week. This comes a day after the Hindustan Times reported about at least five instances of vehicles being burnt in the eastern and central suburbs in the past 27 days.

The police arrested Manjunath Nomdari, 24, a Mulund resident, for setting ablaze two motorbikes on January 21. The bikes were kept in a garage belonging to Rajesh Borker, a cable operator and owner of a motor garage in Mulund, the police said.

Borker had kept the two motorbikes, one his own and another belonging to a customer, in the garage. On Friday night, Nomdari entered the garage and set the two bikes on fire. His actions were, however, captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the garage.

“Nomdari was supposed to get a job in Borkar’s garage, because of which he quit his earlier job. However, Borkar didn’t hire him and kept delaying the process. Nomdari felt betrayed and decided to take revenge by setting the bikes on fire,” said an officer from Mulund police on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Investigations are on in the case,” he said.
