According to the police, Abdul Coatwala, 56, was arrested after Asif Iqbal, the legal owner of the property, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at MRA Marg police station.

The dispute first came to light when Coatwala filed a case against Iqbal last week, alleging that Iqbal had forged the title deed to gain ownership of the building, which is valued around Rs5 lakh.

In his defence, Iqbal submitted documents which showed that he had purchased the property in 2003, including the property’s original papers which dated back 60 years.

Following this, the police began investigating the matter and found that Coatwala had forged the documents.

“Investigations revealed that Coatwala had forged documents to show that he was the owner of the property, including the owner’s name on the property card. When we went through the documents, we realised he had lied. We arrested him immediately,” said senior police inspector Padmakar Juikar.
